There are lots of trees here and I mean that is all that I could find here.
I noted Maples, Cedar, Poplar, and More
Great hunting!!!! and its next to state land. Lots of information below including why I believe this property exists where it is and what it was used for.
This is located on the neighbors private property but there is an easement that allows access here please see below for more information
Looks overgrown but it would be easy to drive a car thru this point
Access to the property is by easement at this bend in the road
Could you drive a car thru here....probably not without scratching your paint. You could cut trees and brush or use a four wheeler. This is a deeded easement to the property
This is a trail.....close to easement...... see notes below for more info on what I think.
This is the drivable easement trail to the south not far from the road
As you can see, I traveled back and forth on the property to scope it out. See my writeup of what I think this property is for my opinions.
This is the path that I took to the property. LOTS OF BEAR ACTIVITY CAUTION. I parked on state land at the flag on the left and walked to the property by state land then walked the easement thru the neighbors property to the south. Then took the road back and around to my car. More information below
This shows the gps path that I took to get back to the public road. See my description
So this is what I believe from the best I can get records is happening and some of this is my opinion based on what I have observed and learned. This property was owned by the original Thompson family (street named after them) The elder was a blacksmith in the UP ages ago. My original thought was this parcel was his original homestead but I failed to find any evidence of this when I actually was there. My second hypothesis is that this was split by the son in the 1960's when the larger sections of the family land was sold that originally were part of this parcel so that they could retain this as a spot to hunt. Either way someone went out of their way to not only create this parcel but to create easements for road access. Either way this parcel is 208ft by 208ft or approximately 1 acre. The northern boundary of this property is state owned land so its a great hunting parcel. You have your own land and a huge area to the north to explore legally. So what could you do with this land? I dont know whats practical here. It would be a really awesome place for a cabin as its really secluded with about a third of a mile long hike to the closest road. I am not sure what legal requirements would be on building here. The property has some wet spots but some dry spots here and I visited in a wet September so I am not sure what it would look like at other times of the year I just know there was a lot of rain just prior to me visiting.
Access is always going to be difficult here. The path I took across state land to get to this property was not easy and there was lots of bear evidence. I am not sure if there are better trails but I didnt have much luck finding them. There is an easement thru the neighbors property that is 20 feet by half a mile for you to use. The problem is the trails or some of them are not 100% inside this easement so there could be some clearing required if you wanted to be 100% legal getting to the property. If you look at my map above you will notice that most of the time I was in the 20ft easement but not all the time as I was also trying to get the most easy to travel path. There is a powerline swath that has been cleared just south of the property and I did not explore the ability to travel this to get to a roadway. What I do know is the path on the easement north of the powerline is very overgrown and would definitely take some work to get thru.
I have not talked to the neighbors on this parcel so I do not know how friendly and accommodating they would be to meandering thru their trails to reach this property so please be aware that this would be trespassing. From my understanding it would be totally legal and within the rights of the easement for you clear a path for a vehicle all the way to the property but you might consult an attorney before doing so but thru my experience and seeing this with my own eyes I dont think it would take a Fecon attached to the front of a bobcat much more than an hour to create a very nice driveable path to the property....again you might want to talk to an attorney before doing so.
Either way you look at it there are 2 legal routes to get to this property, by state land and by easement. This makes this a very usable hunting piece of land.
I dont think getting any utilities here would be possible and I have no idea if this property would pass a perk test or what a raised be septic would be like here. I dont think building a traditional house here would be very realistic. If you are looking for a subdivision home this is probably not your best option but if you are looking for the ultimate in privacy and want to get as far away from people as possible then this is it!!!! I dont think many people have traveled to this property in the last couple decades if any.
There are 2 parcels that you have to travel across this is the southern one
There are 2 parcels that you have to travel across this is the northern one
